Wrest Park estate in Bedfordshire boasts many architectural
structures including the Orangery. The urgent repairs project
directed by English Heritage included the sensitive conservation of
the statues adorning the entrance and lime rendering to failed
parapets and brickwork.
Works completed:
Achieved using lime mortar and crushed Ham stone dust as
aggregate to achieve the colour match to the synthetic painted
surfaces. Fractured sections were pinned with stainless steel
dowel and threaded wire, hydraulic lime mortars and pozzolans.
Deterioration of render above the entrance porch was removed, a
better key on the brickwork introduced and lime render applied with
crushed Ham stone dust and other blended aggregates to match the
synthetic painted surfaces.
A sand cast lead cover was introduced to the cornice which we
designed, supplied and fitted. This approved design was a
trial section to prevent further deterioration of the cornice.
