The present building in the earliest parts dates from Norman
times. Outside of London, St Wendreda's Church is thought by many
to have the best double hammerbeam roof in Britain with 9 bays and
an enormous 120 angels fitted to the beams. The church tower is
unusual for having a covered path run under it, probably because
there was an ancient right of way running through the site before
the church was built, perhaps one of the earliest examples of the
planning system in action!
